Deaths and Binnacle List

Mike Harring passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 18. The wake will be Friday, Nov. 21, 6 - 8 PM at Carolina Memorial Gardens on Rivers Ave. in North Charleston. The Burial is Saturday, Nov 22 at 10:30 AM.

David Morrison's son, Erick, called to let me know David passed away Monday 11/3/08. There will be a memorial service in Muskogee, OK on November 15th. Erick was trying to get in touch with Frank Bounds, Dave Defalco and Tom Spisik but I don't have them on the locator. Erick may be reached at erick.morrison@ebmorri.com  .

I received the following message from Dottie Kirkland on Geoff Kirkland's internment.  Geoff's interment at Arlington is scheduled for Monday, November 24th at 3 pm.  If there are any shipmates that might want to know this.... 

With sad news I have to report the death of Esther McLaughlin, Widow of  TMC Robert McLaughlin (SSBN 632 G). Esther passed away 6 Oct 2008 due to congestive heart failure.  Memorial services will be 1 Nov 2008 at Stuhrs Northwoods Chapel in N. Charleston. 1700-1900.

We've been notified by his wife Doris that Mike Hazen died on October 6th.

Dave Deason IC2/SS from the gold crew in the late 70's went into the hospital  on Oct. 6th with little hope of coming out again. Dave was medivaced from the boat around Andros Island during sound trials in 1979 due to a busted eardrum. He has been fighting the Navy since then because he believes his medical problems are due to the treatment he received.

2009 Reunion Information

A button to reach a list of those registered for the reunion has been added. The list is annotated with the events for which the individuals are registered. There are 17 spots left on the King's Bay tour.

The Registration Form is now on the site (click on button above). The $25/person cost for the tour covers the transportation and a meal at the base. We are not allowed to use POVs for the tour. The 88 spaces for the tour will be filled as the registration forms are received. THERE ARE NO RESERVED SPOTS! As of 11/15 we have 70 people signed up for the reunion and 61 signed up for the tour.

IMPORTANT

The 2009 Reunion is set for March 25 - 29. The host hotel is the Holiday Inn Airport Jacksonville. To make reservations at a special rate ($98.00 + tax which comes to $110.74 a day) click here. The phone number for reservations is 904-741-4404. Keyword VON. We will have boat tours at King's Bay for subs available. The registration fee will be $70.00 per person. We are going to arrange for some boat tours and will need additional information for those wishing to attend the tours. More on that later. This site is dedicated to the men who served aboard USS Von Steuben SSBN 632 and the women and families that kept them going. It doesn't matter if you were Blue or Gold, or the wife, parent, girlfriend, or child of a crewmember, this is your site.
